pyrenees pilgrimage and pamplona or
ON THE ROAD WITH CHAUCER AND HEMINGWAY
This eight-day July adventure inspired by Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises involves genuine on-the-road adventure.
We begin with four days on the Route of Santiago de Compestella, the pilgrim’s trail that leads from the interior of Europe to northwestern Spain. No forced march here as we will have a support vehicle for our impedimenta, but lodging will be at inns or hostels used by fellow pilgrims. Upgrades are possible!

After meeting these interesting personalities and
experiencing
an unusual daily routine, we will we move to a
comfortable hotel in nearby Pamplona for three days of spirited
celebration during the fiesta of San Fermin that served as the locale
for Hemingway’s novel and twenty-three previous Reed Finlay student
trips. We spend
our final two days at a four-star hotel for rest and fine dining in San
Sebastian, Spain’s gastronomic capital.

Other interesting pre-trip reading
includes: Jack Hitt’s Off the Road: A
Modern-Day Walk Down the Pilgrim’s Route into Spain
(Simon and Schuster) and Hape Kerkeling's I'm Off Then: Losing and
Finding Myself on the Camino de Santiago (Free
Press).
From college we remember Chaucer's tales of pilgrims, and now we have gist for our own tales of what we did and who we met!
Dates: July 2010 and 2011
