LisbonTOSeville

Lisbon to Seville Lisbon to SevilleWe begin in Lisbon, noted for its tiles, red trams on steep inclines and narrow streets, views of the Tagus River, seafood, and excellent wines.

During our four days here, we will visit the Alfama port area, the ultra-modern Gulbenkian Museum, shops around the Avenida da Liberdade and a fado restaurant.

Our day trips via chauffeured bus will take us to Obidos with its medieval walls and shopping opportunities; Sintra with its castle, romantic heritage, and lush forests; and the desolate Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe.

Our Seville hotel is in the heart of Seville, near the Maestranza bullring, the Royal Tobacco Factory (setting for Bizet’s “Carmen”), and the Maria Luisa Park with its  fairy tale-like waterfalls, gazebos and tropical growth.
One afternoon some may be interested in taking flamenco dance lessons.

En route to Seville, we will stop at the Donana National Park,Carmen Carmen a vast wetlands home to birds and animals, with scenery much like that of the South Carolina Low Country.

In Seville there is no need to dine at lavish restaurants when there are tapa bars with counters laden with shrimp croquettes, cod, gazpacho and pork loin. A good starting point for an evening of tapas is the bar at the legendary Alfonso XIII hotel, almost a museum with its historical past and elegance.

The spring and fall are the best times for this trip.
