NORTHERN ITALY: MILAN, LAKE GARDA & THE DOLOMITES

What an interesting part of Italy: Milan with its
Duomo, La
Scala Opera House, canals of Navigli and the Galleria Vittorio
Emmanuele, and from there it is a short drive to Lake Garda with its
lake towns such as Gargnano, where we recently spent three weeks
studying Italian.
Other lake towns are Salo of Mussolini’s short-lived
and ill-fated “Republic” and Sirmione with its Castello Scaligero and
Caves of Catullus. Across the lake is the funicular to the summit of
Montebaldo that offers an alpine panorama topped only by Ortisei in the
Dolomites, where we spend the last two nights before driving to
Innsbruck for our departure home. This trip is perfect for spring and
fall.
