Operaandclassical musicINPragueANDBerlin

operaAnna at the Opera

This adventure is patterned on a recent trip with 23 guests for opera at Prague's State Opera and National Opera houses, violin concerti of Mozart and Hayden at Salzburg's Schloss Mirabell and Mahler and Brahms symphonies at Venice's La Fenice Opera House.

In Prague we will stay at the five-star Hotel Paris in the Old TOwn and have a guide to lead us to St. Vitus Cathedral, the Alfons Mucha (preeminent art deco artist) Museum, Charles Bridge and the Pilsner Urquell Brewery.

Prior to each opera, we will have a "sampler" led by a member of the Prague opera community. One of the most enjoyable activities is the private trolley ride, complete with wine bar and musician on board, that clang-clangs through Prague with our happy band of travelers.

Berlin Wall

By first-class train, we travel to Berlin for four days of guided tours by former students.  The  Reichstag, Potsdam, and Frederick the Great's San Souci, Checkpoint Charlie and opera are scheduled.

NOTE: Whereas this trip features opera and classical music, it is not limited to those with an interest in music.  Prague and Berlin have fascinating and important roles in European history, and our visit will revive and expand our knowledge.

(Summer, 2010)

Whereas major European opera houses operate in the winter only, the summer is the time for smaller cities ans their outdoor venues.

Performances we have enjoyed in the past have been at the Puccini Festival in August near his home at Torre del Lago (Lucca), Verona, and Santa Fe.
